I was contacted by a debt collector in regard to this post who I will let him decide whether or not he wants his name and/or company to remain anonymous.
Anyway, our clients and readers know how hard we fight for your rights and what lengths we go to in order to repair your credit, but there’s another side to this that you should be aware of.
The collector wrote me personally with very well written, polite email explaining the benefits of debt collectors (yes there are many) and the hassles they put up with.
Before you guys start calling me a traitor hear me out.
I have no doubt most of you would love to pay your bills if you could afford to - and I have no doubt debt collectors would love to call you with pleasant attitudes, but things don’t always work out that way and it turns out to be a headache for both parties.
What I’ve done is start a category called “Debt Collectors Stories” where this guy has posting privileges. I think this could open the lines of communications between collectors and consumers and who knows….maybe together we could make a difference.
Feel free to write with any questions you have for him, opinions, suggestions or anything else and together he and I will try to answer with opinions from both sides of the industry.

Good for you. While I don’t think any of your fans are going to be collection agency fans, open communication is a healthy thing.
I think it’s a step in the right direction. I know if collectors were to work with me nicely, I would be way more willing to do the same.

Hello all, DC here. I wanted to thank Marc for allowing me to post my opinions and thoughts regarding the issues raised on MCG. I have been in the Debt Recovery industry for over 10 years and worked in various departments such as telephones, doorstep visiting, IT, contract management and business development.
I am not here to judge or lay down the law, but simply offer advice or suggestions from the other side of the fence.
