The Best Credit Repair Company - How to Decide

Posted on February 16th, 2008 by Marc Chase Posted in Credit Repair | 11 Comments

How do you know if a credit repair company you're about to trust with your most personal information with is the best choice for your needs? Do their sales pitches accurately portray the service you’ll receive? Are there warning signs to look for? Which features should you consider, and which ones should you discard as sales hype?

To answer these questions you first have to think about your personal needs, your current situation and your future goals. Where one may be the best credit repair company for somebody else – it may be entirely the wrong company for you.

With that said, I’ve compiled a list of general guidelines that anybody looking for the best credit repair company can safely use as a checklist. For the most part they are in order of priority. Feel free to reorganize them to fit your needs, but all things considered I think it’s fairly reliable.

Top Considerations

Personalized Consultation:
Hands down the most important aspect. We each have unique circumstances. Your finances are not the same as mine, neither are your goals and nor will your credit repair plan.

Common sense on this one folks! If you don’t get a consultation that builds a plan built around your personal situation – I wouldn’t waste a dime. Anybody that says“Send us your reports, tell us what to dispute and we’ll do the rest” could really mess things up for you.

A decent consultation is going to take in the neighborhood of an hour and should be pretty personal. If it sounds boiler plate and doesn’t really dig, then you’re probably talking to a chop shop.

Call around, get a free consultation from everybody your considering and I promise – you’ll know which one is right for you.

Debt Negotiation:
This may, or may not apply to you but I highly recommend you talk to your credit repair company and make sure it’s an option. Even the best credit repair company is not always going to get everything removed.

In fact, disputing some debts will get you sued faster then you can say bad credit. With those, negotiating a payment plan with a “pay for deletion” clause is paramount – trust me on this one.

BBB Track Record:
Again common sense. A file riddled with complaints is a major red flag. To check a credit repair company’s record, just follow the link below and type in their URL e.g. best-credit-repair-company .com and see how many complaints have been filed.

Help Establishing New Credit:
This one isn’t as important as the first three, but very close. A good credit profile is more then just removing negative items. Most people with bad credit will likely need help establishing new tradelines. If you’re one of them, this is something I would add to your checklist.

Not So Important Considerations:

Testimonials:
Yes it’s nice to hear what other people have said, but most testimonials I’ve seen are fake - do you really know who “Sally in Texas is?” Without a full name, and email it’s really not that reliable, and fat chance people are going to want that published.

Testimonials are a website staple - just not that reliable, or important.

Number of Past Deletions:
I hate seeing this one. Do you really care what we did for the client before you? No – you care about what were going to do for you. Your credit report is not the same as our past clients and our success (or failure) for them has nothing to do with you.

Number of Clients we’ve Helped:
Again, what’s that got to do with you? I thought of this one yesterday when buying lunch at McDonalds. I was waiting for my order and was reading the sign that said something like 100 billion served (that’s a lot of hamburgers). After being forgotten about for 10 minutes, my lunch came and was completely wrong.

Yes mistakes happen and I didn’t mind, but it made me realize - it doesn’t matter how big you are, all that mattered to me was my lunch. Luckily it was only lunch and not something important like my credit.

Monitoring Your Progress Online:
Yes we offer it. Yes I know you guys like it, but in all honesty you know the progress before your credit repair company does. We all do the same thing. We input the updates that you send to us in a backend for you to view.

All you have to do is look at the first page of the credit reports sent to you each month, and you’ll know what were going to input into our backend before we do it.

It’s a novelty feature only.

So there you have it
what I feel is a pretty reliable checklist of what you should, and should not care about when searching for the best credit repair company.

I’m sure I’ll get a couple hundred emails accusing me of trying to sell our own credit repair services, but if you look at what I’ve pointed out – I really think it’s an honest checklist. Whether you use us, another company, or do it yourself there are just certain things that are important and you need to look for.

If you’ve hired us, or any other credit repair company – we’d like to know why you chose that one, and how your experience was.

Great site and list of information! I completely agree with #1 that a relationship is important.

I have experienced this before when I went to one company and they treated me like a number and they only wanted to “help me” with my MONEY!

Luckily I found one company that took a real interest in helping ME.

Very rarely we find the companies who are interested in helping us. Often it happens that we get cheated and also our work wouldn’t be done. But now thanks to you for the valuable information and the points and also how to deal with such companies.

Well, usualy you can appeal on some familiar companies, meaning do not appeal on big consultance companies, i prefer small companies that have all the time and they can explain you every detail of anything you must you or you can do for not having finance problems.

Its very rare that we get the help of the companies. We mostly get cheated by them. But this post may be helpful for the people to choose the right credit repair and would be thankful to you for directing them in a right direction.
