The 1st Step in any Credit Repair Plan

in Credit Repair

When most people begin repairing their credit, they’re eager to get things going and address their most pressing issues.  And of course, credit report mistakes, collection accounts and unpaid debts are all things to be concerned about—and the sooner you deal with them, the better.

But while so many are focused on getting results, they’re often overlooking the first (and one of the most important) steps in the process.

Reviewing and understanding your credit

Reviewing your credit history is a great way to identifying problem areas and gain a reasonable understanding of your circumstances.  Knowing the challenges you’re facing is the first step in creating an effective plan, and without a good plan, you’re probably not going to get very far in the process.

If you’re going to a credit repair service for help, make sure it includes an opportunity to sit down with a credit specialist to review your credit history—it’s just as important for them to have an understanding of your situation as it is for you.

Many credit repair companies don’t offer this kind of individualized approach.  Instead of taking the time to understand your needs, they simply go right into a disputing process, where often times, anything and everything on your credit report is disputed, putting you and your credit at the risk of further damage. That’s why this initial review of your report is so important.

With a good understanding of your credit situation you can:

•    Identify credit report mistakes
•    Avoid disputing debts that could get you sued
•    Assess your total debt situation
•    Identify &  focus on your most serious issues first
•    Apply safe, effective solutions to your problems
•    Have a greater chance of success with your repair plan

Without reviewing and understanding your credit, you may just find that credit repair just isn’t working for you the way you thought it would.  It’s very important to be organized and to stay focused, and you just can’t do this as well without a good careful study of your circumstances.

Remember, there’s more to credit repair than just dispute letters.  And if you’re planning on doing it right, make sure you do it smart.  Get a copy of your credit report today and start building a plan.
