Is Good Credit Really Sexy?
Posted on February 27th, 2007 by Marc Chase Posted in Software & Website Review | 2 CommentsKristy Welsh has one of the most prestigious writing awards an author can receive; My Credit Group’s seal of approval. Just kidding, but in all seriousness, I found her book Good Credit Is Sexy a pretty well written and informative book about credit repair.
I have read every book, website and credit repair forum that I can find and I have to say Good Credit is Sexy is the best of the bunch. Now, you know me and I’m skeptical of almost anybody in this industry so I did find something to complain about which I will do shortly.
All in all, it was a pretty easy read and covered subject matters such as mortgage information, statute of limitations for debts in various states - which as any of our members know is a big tool for us when repairing credit. She explains how to sue collectors for violations of the FDCPA, allowable fees allowed by collectors and a slue of other helpful content.
For the most part, anything you need to know about credit repair and finances in general is in this book. Each chapter is prefaced with a “personal story” that people can relate to which dovetails right into the meat and potatoes of that chapters topic.
As you all know by now, we despise any credit repair company whose primary method of operation is the use of those generic, free credit repair letters. They are not nearly as affective as they once were, and any company relying on them is wasting your money. Although Kristy does have sample letters in her book, they are explained in sort of a secondary way to help fix your credit.
Things like learning how to spot violations made by collectors is definitely in the forefront of her explanation and that’s exactly how we do business…it’s how business should be one.
Now, let’s take a quick look at the one thing that left a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Kristy slams credit repair companies pretty hard and rightfully so. It’s a horribly sleazy industry and one we ourselves are constantly working very hard to clean up.
While we share the same view of the industry Kristy does, she herself charges a lofty $80.00 an hour for “credit consulting”. Now in my opinion, it’s bordering on hypocrisy when you state “save your money” regarding credit repair companies but then charge for credit repair consulting. How is charging for credit repair consulting any better? One could even argue you’re even paying for less service.
Never the less, I think Kristy has a great book, I know personally she is very passionate about what she does and if “do it yourself credit repair” is what you’re after - it gets my vote for a must read.
Thanks for the review of my book! I understand about the credit counseling slam and “hypocrisy” you mentioned - let’s have a chat.
