The truth about fixing a credit report quickly is that it’s very, very rare. Credit repair is a time consuming process where you are generally waiting on the credit reporting agencies, collection agencies and creditors. However there are some general tips to fix credit if you don’t want it to take longer than necessary.
Use Certified Mail
Whether you are writing to the credit bureaus or to collectors, they generally have 30 days by law to respond to your inquiries and disputes. By sending your correspondences by certified mail you are ensuring that the 30-day countdown will be adhered to. This will also guarantee that they have received you letter, which is important in the event a collection agency refutes your claim that you actually sent it.
Send the Correct Information
The credit bureaus are very particular in the information that needs to be sent to them to confirm your identity. Generally a picture ID, along with an item that verifies your residence and one that identifies your social security number will suffice. However each credit bureau is different so it’s best to check their websites to make sure that your letter won’t be completely disregarded.
Dispute in Moderation
If in the course of fixing your credit reports you need to dispute the validity of several accounts, do so sparingly. Challenging more than 5 will almost certainly result in the credit bureaus sending you a letter claiming that you are trying to manipulate the system by disputing too many accounts.
