    collectors calling my family!

Hi people, I wanted to know if collection agencies or your creditors can dig up and share personal information such as family memebers without your consent. I have a woman trying to collect from me and calling my in-laws. I have NEVER given these people my in-laws phone number but somehow they got it. I have not been there to accept thecall or ask her to stop calling that number, but she does keep leaving messages. So are they legally allowed to contact people you know without permission?

There's a real fine line between contacting somebody just to find out your contact information and harrassment. Have your in-laws keep a log of everytime somebody calls. If you're willing to deal with them, have them give the collector the contact information you want them to, then politely ask them to stop contacting them.

if it goes past that, they could be looking at a FDCPA violation
