How I screwed up the SOL on my delinquent account
In CA the SOL is 4 yrs, right? so i shouldnt have to worry too much about collection accounts that appeared before then right? not in my case...
the account in question went delinquent about 7 years ago. But just last year, after getting a copy of my credit report,I noticed the debt was still on there. I thought I'd give paying it off a try. I made one small payment to get them off my back, intending to make more payments as time went by.
At that time, I know nothing about credit repair or statute of limitations. I didn't realize that the state SOL had passed and that in less than a year the debt would expire altogether. I wasn't able top make any more payments after that.
well lo and behold, after checking my recent credit report, i discovered that the SOL was changed because of that payment I made. i WAS, at the time, only a year or less from the 7 year federal limitation and the state SOl was passed. Now, I have 6 more years to go!!!
learn from my mistakes! learn more about credit repair, collections and SOL BEFORE you go making any moves!
