Hopefully someone out there can help me with this question...

It seems to make sense that paying of old collections is a good way to improve your credit..however, I have heard more than once that paying off collections don't really do much to repair your credit.

Is it true that paying off collections can be a waste of time when it comes to credit repair? and if so, what's the point? Are there any benefits at all to taking care of them or is it best to just wait for the statute of limitations to expire the debt?

I need help b/c I want to fix my credit but don;t want to waste my time and money getting out of debt if it waon't do me any good.

Thank you, folks.
