Anyone have tips for a beginner doing my own credit repair?
OK, I’m just starting out with this whole credit repair thing, and I’m looking to do it myself. Not sure I can afford to have it done professionally. The problem is that all the sites I go to say that disputing is the way to go. Then I’m reading through these forums and it looks like disputing might not be my best bet. I’ve already pulled my credit reports, I can pretty much make some sense of them, but where do I go from here?
Thanks everyone in advance.

Hi RockyTop,
Good for you. Do-it-Yourself Credit Repair is definitely a fulfilling experience. Just make sure that you have a lot of patience, because you’re going to need it. Definitely use the boards as much as possible too.
If you can give me a little more information about what’s on the reports I can definitely point you in the right direction. Just a heads up, disputing everything probably isn’t going to solve all of your problems. As a general rule, dispute anything that’s wrong or that’s suspicious. If you know that it’s your account and that you didn’t pay it off properly, be prepared to settle that debt. If you dispute it, the company that you’re disputing it with becomes aware of what you’re trying to do. They’ll start pulling out all the stops to get that money; harassment, legal teams, it’s not a pleasant situation.
Let us know what’s actually on the reports & we’ll probably be able to better direct you.
Good Luck!
