Beware of Credit Scams
There is another Phishing scam that has already accumulated victim’s to a high degree. Citibank is warning its users to be aware of any emails that are coming from them. This email scam pretends to be Citibank and let me tell you, it looks pretty legit as it carries the HTTPS in its link. It will also ask for an opt code that you received in an SMS text. Pretty elaborate.
You will recognize the fake Citibank Domain or web address as “update-citi.com”. Once you click on it you enter your login credentials, it will continue on to request your personal information, that includes your name, date of birth, address, last four of SSN and than your DEBIT card number.
This is pretty sophisticated scam that a lot of people will fall for. Some common sense advice to all. In this day and age, we all like to move at warp speed and click on anything given in the name of “convenience”.
When you get an email, phone call or SMS text from your financial institution, IRS, social security administration or Credit Card Company asking for your personal information simply hang up or delete the email. Always contact you financial institution, IRS, social security administration or Credit Card Company on your own. If it is legit, they will take care of whatever was needed over the phone. If it is a scam than you just saved yourself from becoming a victim! It really is that simple.
